A Green Card provides foreign people, lawful permanent residence in the US and the opportunity to work there without any restriction. There are various US Green Card categories. Some of them are listed below:
• Employment Based Green Cards: Foreigners with a permanent employment opportunity in the US can be sponsored by their employer to apply for lawful residence in the US. There are four employment based opportunities and one employment creation sub category (EB1-EB5).
o Priority Workers
o Advanced degree holders
o Professional and skilled workers
o Special Immigrants
o Employment Creation
• Family Based Green Cards: Foreigners with eligible family members who are either US citizens or permanent residents can apply for a US Green Card through their family.
o Immediate relative of US citizen
o Spouse or Child of permanent resident
o Child of US citizen
o Sibling of US citizen
• Diversity Visa Lottery: each year the US Department of State holds a lottery and randomly selects applications to give green cards.
