H-1B Visa Holders Mostly From China Or India

Since 2000, most people that were approved to be H-1B visa holders were born in China or India, and were hired for technology positions and increasingly held advanced degrees, data on approved petitions showed.

Over the last decade, the top four countries of birth for approved H-1B visa holders were India, China, Canada and the Philippines. Across all 10 years, about 64 per cent of approved H-1B visa holders were born in these four countries, with the largest group from India.

"Between fiscal year 2000 and fiscal year 2009, the majority of approved H-1B visa holders were born in Asia," said the report titled ''H-1B Visa Programme: Reforms are needed to minimize the risks and costs of current programme''. Nearly half of H-1B visa holders in the US were from India, according to an official report.
